"No Job? Get Lost!" by Andrew Higgins Response

The article "No job?  Get Lost!" by Andrew Higgins explores the normalities in Svalbard Norway.  Higgins explains that in Svalbard, crimes are a very rare occurrence.  He explains that "Svalbard, has a police force with just six officers and a single jail cell for an area twice the size of New Jersey."  Higgins expresses that Svalbard Norway is a very abnormal place.
In the article, Higgins proves that Svalbard Norway differs from any other place around the world.  Higgins supports his claim by explaining the abnormalities that occur in Svalbard.  The governor of Svalbard states "If you don't have a job, you can't live here".  Higgins explains that if a resident in Svalbard does not have a job, they can't live there.  Being jobless is illegal.  Higgins then continues to explain that the residents of Svalbard feel comfortable enough to leave their front doors unlocked.  By providing statements from the governor, Higgins gains trust from the reader.  By gaining trust from the reader, Higgins can easily persuade the reader into believing his claim.
In conclusion, this article has succeeded to open my eyes.  Here in New York, nobody would ever dare to leave the front doors unlocked.  Yet in other places around the world people do it all the time.  In some places around the world, crime is a rare occurrence.  Yet in New York crimes occur on a daily basis.  This article has taught me that although some things may appear normal to us, others will think that it is abnormal.  Just like if we find something abnormal, somebody else will find is normal.
